Many factors can contribute to sex difficulties.

Pressure. Anxiety. Misinformation/lack of information. Life stress and transitions. Shame. Trauma. Relationship difficulties. Beliefs and past experiences. Miscommunications. Grief. Confidence. Body image. Chronic pain. Health and other medical conditions. Societal messaging. Restrictive sexual scripts or sex education. Time and other commitments. Unmet needs. Worries. Distractions.

There are ways to move forward from all of these.

Treatments I offer:

  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence based treatment that helps you identify the factors affecting your sexual concerns and work to target each of them through cognitive, emotional, and behavioral techniques. We work on understanding and changed beliefs that negatively impact your sex life, as well as experientially gathering corrective and healing emotional experiences.

This treatment involves building mindfulness, using somatic coping skills, processing emotions, identifying and evaluating thoughts, undoing shame, and learning new information about sexual norms and functioning.

Treatment will be customized to you, and go at your own pace, respecting your boundaries and needs. This treatment can be done in relationship or solo.

  • Sensate focus is a well established treatment for sex difficulties that helps alleviate pressure and stress around sex, and allows recovery of automatic responses of the body like sexual desire and arousal. This treatment helps build your abilities to cope with distractions and stay present, increasing enjoyment and pleasure in sex.

Sensate focus is customized to you, your specific difficulties and needs. You are able to set your own boundaries and go at your own pace in this treatment. This treatment can be done in relationship or solo.
